Stage 2 load shedding will resume at 09:00 on Saturday morning and continue until 22:00, Eskom has said, as cold weather boosts demand for electricity.

The power utility had managed to avoid nationwide load shedding during the lockdown, but power cuts recommenced on Friday after a number of generating units tripped and a cold front caused temperatures to drop.
Parts of Gauteng, meanwhile, have faced bouts of localised rolling blackouts during lockdown known as “load rotation”, which Eskom has attributed to a prevalence of vandalism and illegal connections.
In a statement on Friday, Eskom said rotational power cuts were needed in order for Eskom to replenish its emergency generation reserves for the week ahead.
The utility urged the public to continue reducing electricity usage.
