Joy for Skeyfontein Families as Building Materials Handed Over After Storm Destruction

It was a moment of relief and gratitude for the community of Skeyfontein this week when the Department of Human Settlements, together with Tsantsabane Local Municipality, handed over building materials to 48 families whose shacks were destroyed by disastrous rain and strong winds during heavy rainfall that was experienced this year.

The handover was led by the Speaker of Council and the Ward 7 Councilor, who joined officials of Tsantsabane Local Municipality and Department of human settlement on the ground to ensure support reached those most affected.

Heavy rains and winds left families in Skeyfontein with destroyed shacks and houses. After a thorough assessment by Tsantsabane Local Municipality and department of human settlement a report was made to quickly respond to the situation.

The Speaker said the municipality understood the pain the families had gone through and reaffirmed Council’s commitment to work with other Government departments to respond quickly in times of disaster.

The Ward 7 Councilor thanked the Department of Human Settlements for acting swiftly and said the materials would help families rebuild with dignity before the next round of bad weather.

Beneficiaries received packs of building materials to help them reconstruct their homes. The 48 families identified for assistance expressed their thanks, saying the support came at a time when they needed it most.

Community members also praised the quick response, calling it a “joyous moment” that showed government and local leadership standing together with the people of Skeyfontein.

For now, the focus is on rebuilding. But for the 48 families who received help, the message was clear: they have not been forgotten.
